Re: Restaurant recommendation for Indian and Vietnamese?
Wed, January 17, 2007 - 5:53 AMOk I think Darbar is on Polk not Pine. I thought my Chicken Tikki Masala had no taste too it. I struggled to get something from it.
Thanks for the update on the Pho restaurant on Polk - I had been curious, but didn't have the courage to go in..

Re: Restaurant recommendation for Indian and Vietnamese?
Tue, March 27, 2007 - 12:44 AMI've heard good things about Pagolac from reliable sources but have never been. Cordon Blue's 5-spice chicken is tasty. It's on California betw. Polk and Larkin.
Darbar's good. It's really Pakistani but has the same dishes you'll find on an Indian menu. It's on Polk, not Pine. Right across Polk Street is Shalimar, which is also good. No beer or wine is sold at Shalimar, but customers often buy their own at the liquor stores on Polk and Pine. Royal Liquors has a better beer selection than the other liquor store adjacent to Shalimar.
Shalimar and Cordon Blue spent absolutely nothing on decor. The food is the reason to go. I usually get takeout. Darbar made an effort but won't win any design awards. If you want nicer surroundings suitable for a date or dinner with the folks, try Maharani (Indian) on Post at Polk, but it's more expensive than the others.
